Tips from a High School Senior’s mom

Senior Mom Tips 2017

The time has come! It’s finally here!!  Senior week, Bachelorette, Award Ceremonies and Graduation! The next few days are full of so many exciting new chapters for #mepseniors and their families.

Words of Wisdom

I had the chance to chat with some of the #mepsenior mom’s on some thigns they would like their babies to know as they graduate! I know in just a few years I’ll be revisiitng these tips, and I’m sure there is something we can each learn from them and even apply in our lives currently.

Make a Mom date

I love hand delivering products and stopped by the Ozark vs. Springfield Catholic GIrls soccer game a week or two ago to bring Stephanie a beautiful wall art piece from Sophia’s session. I asked her is she had any words of advice for next years senior mom’s. She said “make time for each other. Even if it’s once a week or even every other week, set an ongoing dinner or coffee date.” What a great suggestion! I love the idea of finding some special downtime to spend with each other, especially with how busy life can be! Their Senior year of high school will fly by!!!  Here are some local fun things that are happening in the next few weeks that would make for a great senior/parent date.  417 Magazine is a great resource for local fun!  Farmers Markets  16 Great Trails for outdoor lovers, or how about a weekend brunch?

I love what Amy had to say on preparing for a senior portrait session. “Take the time to do all the pre planning steps. That questionnaire really helps make things personal!” I couldn’t agree with this advice more! As the class of 2018 is already preparing for their sessions, take 15 minutes to really think about the answers you put in to ensure we are able to really create some amazing portraits!  It may seem silly to you, but this questionnaire will really be the first step in magic making!  From a simple questionnaire, I create an inspiration board to begin planning with.  Here is an example of what a board may look like.

Moms on Having Fun

Senior week activities, The Rostic ladies and I talked about how important it is to “just be” enjoy it, this moment will never happen again! You have your entire life to be an adult, just be present and have fun! Don’t take yourself too seriously!  Make mistakes, learn from them and give yourself grace!

Here are three of the greatest tools I have ever been given to try and remember these things!

The Headspace App has been a game changer for me in the last few months of using it!  Just a few minutes a day and following the instructions on how to apply it to yourself has been so great!  Taking a few minutes to love on yourself each day can never be a bad thing!

Read, Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Seriously, just do it!!!

Some podcasts that I love!

The Courage Makers

On Being

Raise your hand and say yes!

Be Proud

There is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments! You’ve worked hard and earned all of them! Take each and every compliment that is given to you, and reply with a THANK YOU! Always remember that social media isn’t real life, there are more important things and lessons to be learned than likes and comments. “Never let the opinions of others become the measure of your self worth.”…… Stay classy!
Be OK with the fact that you are still learning who you are, what you are meant to do and that you don’t have to have it all figured out right now! “Respect yourself enough to say “I deserve peace,” and walk away from people or things that prevent you from attaining it.” – Jerico Silvers

You are Enough

Just remember in case your mind is playing tricks on you today: You matter, You’re important, You are loved. Your presence on this Earth makes a difference whether you see it or not! Happy Mother’s Day week #mepsenior mom’s, we love you!!!
